Picture to the Music: 10 Best Music Videos

First off, let me apologize for the late post this week. I have been trying to post every Tuesday and this week, I completely forgot to do that. So, with that being said, I don’t think this will be the last time my journalism professor will inspire me to make a post. Today we talked about the evolution of music through media. We also had a section about how the Beatles introduced music videos. So I thought it would be cool to highlight some of my favorite videos! These videos have always stuck out in my mind for one reason or another, so let’s get started…

10. “Why Am I Like This” – The Word Alive: I just watched this video Thursday and recently became a fan of the band, but I absolutely love the color scheme and editing done in this video. I think the fact that you can’t really see any of the members facial features during most of the video shows the confusion the song seems to embody.

9. “In Bloom” – Neck Deep: This video is incredibly eye pleasing. I love the flowers and the small little retro looking things the video includes. Then you add a song on top of it, that to me is quite calming, it just makes for an all around chill vibe that I really enjoy.

8. “The Nature of The Beast” – Ice Nine Kills: Not only does this video do a great job of portraying animal farm (which the song is based on), it also creeps me out. Which is a good thing because if you think about the story the way it was told, Animals taking over a farm and making like, a whole government amongst themselves and then becoming just like the humans they overthrew…it should creep people out.

7. “Kids In The Dark” – All Time Low: Ever since I first saw this video, it’s been one I have loved. There isn’t really a specific part or thing about it, it’s always just resonated with me. I love the use of the neon paint and the innocence of the band being an escape and a bonding experience for their fans. I think this video really encompasses that.

6.”Swan Song” – Set It Off: I again, don’t really know what it is about this video that made it stick out to me. I think that the band pulled off the whole circus theme and made the video intense enough to make a point. I also think that the vibe of the set they used added to the impact of the song.

5. “James Dean” – The Wrecks – This video is one of the few live videos that I actually really like. As a fan of this band it is really nice to see a video culmination of all their success as such young artists. Having it all put together and edited the way it is make the video super cool.

4. “Learn To Fly” – Foo Fighters: Dave Ghrol and Jack Black in the same video and Dave dressing up as all the different people in this video. If that doesn’t show you why I love it then I can’t help you.

3. “Broken Generation” – Of Mice & Men: This video is incredibly unique and original. It speaks very clearly to the younger generation and brings up a point many of us, myself included, don’t want to admit is important. We are all too plugged in, we don’t have a sense of community outside of our phones anymore. Hopefully that will change, and maybe this video will help people realize it.

2. “Can You Feel My Heart” – Bring Me The Horizon: This video is always something I think about. The visuals are simple, yet you can’t get them out of your mind. They follow the line of the song to a T and are incredibly effective at being creepy as all hell. By including the band in the midst of the action also adds to the overall impact of the video.

1. “Pittsburgh” – The Amity Affliction – The band will always have a special place with me and so will this song and this video. The band is always open to talking about mental health and struggles with mental illness which is something that I truly respect, and this video is something that has stuck with me since I first saw it three years ago. I think the video is raw and full of emotions that many people can relate to and therefore can find solace in the way the video was made and produced. There is so much I could say about this video, but I think you all would be better off watching it for yourselves.

So those are my favorite music videos! Did any of yours match up? Tweet me your favorites @Natlindz on twitter! Thank you for reading!
