Now when it comes to music there is something that all people can enjoy. There is slow music, fast music, mellow music, aggressive music, you want it? Music has it. That is what I enjoy so much about it! So for this post I would like to highlight another favorite band of mine, Pierce The Veil.
I saw PTV on their Misadventures tour in the summer of 2016. I would have seen them at Warped Tour in 2015 but, as most Warped stories go, things didn’t go as planned. So you can only imagine my excitement when they announced they were playing in Lawrence. Another funny(ish) story about that show is my friend and I were planning to get VIP the day they went on sale but to our dismay they sold out within an hour or two while we were in class. So we got tickets and were in the mindset of “Hey we still get to see them!”. Then later that week as I’m sitting doing algebra homework my phone rings. My friend never calls me unless something is majorly exciting or bad, so when I pick up the phone and she tells me more VIP went on sale, guess who stayed up until midnight so I could buy those upgrades? Me!
So the day of the concert finally arrived and we sat outside and waited for the VIP to be allowed in. Also I was waiting to meet one of my now best friends, Nadia, for the first time. (I will be making an internet friend blog post soon as well, so be on the look-out!) Nadia arrived right when the guys started handing out passes and I don’t think I have ever been hugged so tight in my life! I loved it. When we walked through the doors my breath hitched and I was shaking and I kept telling myself, “Natalie, you have to stay cool, stay cool.” and I was doing good until Jaime greeted me with ‘Hello Darling!’ all sweet and stuff and I cracked. Not too bad but I did. As I finished hugging Mike and Jaime and made my way to Vic he looked at me and asked what my name was. I told him Natalie and he proceeded to sing “Natalie” by Bruno Mars, not like I hadn’t heard that before. But I still smiled immensely. Finally I came to Tony, who I hugged a little longer than the rest, but he just hugged me back and all was well. Point one about PTV, these dudes are so sweet and genuine, it’s actually really refreshing. You can watch interviews with famous people all the time and just watch in awe, like ‘Wow those are some cool people’ and then when you meet them you realize how real they actually are! It’s an awesome feeling!
Alright onto the concert. On the Misadventures tour the band played their Misadventures album in its entirety, track-by-track. I would have to say my favorites live were Texas is Forever, Floral and Fading, and Today I Saw The Whole World. The energy and professionalism that this band shows is so amazing to witness. Tony has such an ease when he plays guitar it’s obvious that he knows exactly what he is doing and he knows he does it well. Vic is always making sure he addresses the crowd, which is an aspect that seems to get overlooked. At least for me personally, I love when an artist tries to speak to the crowd a couple of times during a show, I feel like it shows appreciation. Then Jaime is so enthusiastic and energetic, he goes from left stage to right stage and back and forth so many times, and the spin move with the bass?! Awesome! Mike I also feel gets left out a lot, like if you have seen PTV before and focused on Mike playing drums, he gets so into it and it’s almost like he loses himself and that is so cool to see from an artist!
If you haven’t seen Pierce The Veil before, you really should because it will truly be something you won’t forget or regret!
